Meet Darwin!

While Ryan and I were in Florida, we received a call from our pet sitter...never a good sign. The conversation went as follows:

Erika: "Hi, Allison. When I went in to feed the guinea pigs...one of them was really still, not breathing and its eyes were closed."
Me: "So it's dead?"
Erika: "Ummmm....yes, I think so."
Long story short, it ended up being Preston's guinea pig, Alvin. It broke my heart because he had never lost a pet before, and I wasn't sure how he would react. We decided to wait and tell him once we returned so as to not ruin his weekend. When I picked the boys up from school on Monday, I gave Preston the sad news, and my poor little guy sobbed like I have not heard him do in FOREVER. It killed me. I wanted to cry, but I held it together, and to the pet store we went to adopt another little piggy!
Meet, Darwin, named after one of the guinea pigs in Disney's G-Force! Once Preston had Darwin in his little freckled arms, he was a happy camper again, and so was I. This parenting business is hard work!
Now, introducing Darwin to Blaster and Hurley was comical to say the least. After consulting a few Internet sites regarding the subject, I discovered the "mounting" going on between the 3 piggies was completely normal and to be expected as it was their way of sorting out the pecking order among the 3 of them. Ryan and I did have to laugh, however, when Preston said, "Look, Mom! Darwin is giving Blaster a piggyback ride!"
Here's a little video of what has been nicknamed "Guinea Pig Recess" at our house:
Happy Wednesday!
