This is what it looks like outside today.
Can you see the rain?
It.is.pouring.
Nonstop pouring.
As a result of God's natural sprinkler system,
This is what the window over our sink looks like right now.
Everything had to be removed from the surrounding counters.
Because of this:
Which eventually became this:
and this:
and this...
Nice.
Just so happens that Ryan is home with me today
due to a sinus infection and bronchitis...poor hubby...so I was not forced
to conquer this beast on my own.
Awesome.
Soon it will be taken care of, and all my chachkis
can go back to their respective homes in the kitchen.
What a mess.
Moving on to the random fluff...
Our master bedroom, which we have done absolutely nothing to
since moving in almost 4 months ago,
has turned into my sweatshop as seen below:
Lovely.
Eventually there will be a king sized chocolate brown lush, tufted wing back headboard, beautiful bedding, bamboo shades and silk drapes...but for now it's a sweatshop.
But look what happens in the sweatshop:
A sneak peek for you, Alisha!
Lots o' work takes place in that room.
Lots.
I received a few emails asking about the chalkboard on my pantry.
Yes, this one right here:
You like?
You can have one too!
Step 1: Go to Home Depot, and buy chalkboard paint.
Step 2: Tape off and sand the area you want to paint.
Step 3: Paint it with several thin coats...nope...I didn't even prime the door.
Step 3: Let the painted area dry, pull off the tape, and look at your masterpiece!
Step 4: Enjoy all the "Cool, Mom!" comments you will no doubt receive from your children and the loving smack on your behind accompanied by "Way to go, hot Mama" you will most definitely get from your hubby...at least that's how it went at my house.
I decided to hang the old chalkboard from the kitchen
at eye level for the boys to play with
right outside the door leading under the stairs
where all of the arts and crafts supplies, extra school supplies and games are kept:
The longer we're here in this home, the more we fall in love with it and want to buy it.
The only stipulation is that it has to make sense monetarily to build a pool in the backyard.
Closer to the end of our lease, we'll have some pool builders out to give us estimates, but in the mean time, we are beginning to look at other things we'd like to do assuming we purchase the abode.
One project on my list is the kitchen:
Please excuse the wreck.
This pic was taken today during our minor "ceiling cave-in incident".
I love our kitchen.
It's HUGE.
I love the double ovens, the ginormous island, the Viking cook top, the hood, the built ins.
With that said, I would love to paint/glaze the cabinets since we have
soooo much dark wood going on with the floors and all the built ins in the family room
however, we would keep the island stained the way it is.
In addition, we would love to have a deep L-shaped bench built under the windows in the breakfast room with generous cushions, lots of pillows and drapes
matching the ones over the sink which I just made recently.
Your thoughts?
Happy hump day, friends!!
OMG. I want to do the same thing to our kitchen...need more mula!
ReplyDeleteI totally want to paint our cabinets. Our kitchen is in the middle of the house so there is not windows and the cabinets are super dark so therefore the area..super light! and if i had the same set up as you i would totally do L shape cushiony stuff. I am love with all the set ups like that at ballard designs! do it!!!! for me!!!
i met dark cabinets = dark room...not light! der!
ReplyDeleteOh good Lord....met haha meant
ReplyDeleteI am signing off now...too distracted! haha
Thanks for the chalkboard idea - I am going to have to see if that will work on my pantry door. I love the bench/cushion/pillow idea - that would look great in that corner.
ReplyDeleteMy curtains look fabulous! Can't wait to see them in person!!!!! Thank you, thank you!

ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is beyond fab, Allison. Love the bench/nook idea!
Oh my gosh! I can't believe the drama with the ceiling/sink/window! How crazy! Your house looks amazing. I love reading your random thoughts. Miss you!
ReplyDeleteCatching up! Love the kitchen and the chalkboard!
ReplyDeleteHi! Found your blog from Lauren over at Pure Style. What a beautiful family you have. I have 5 little boys and my first three are also Austin, Preston, and Carter in that order, I thought that was pretty funny:) Beautiful home, great ideas, thanks!
ReplyDeletewe, too, discovered a leak yesterday with all the rain! NICE! the kitchen is gorgeous! I personally like the dark cabinets but i am sure if you changed that it would be even more beautiful. And the L shaped bench sounds great
ReplyDeleteI will be interested to see what you do with those cabinets... We have the same cabinets... and I've always wanted to paint them.... hubs says I'm crazy.
ReplyDeleteI (actually Derek) painted that same chalkboard on my pantry door when we built. I didn't sand first. And it worked fine. So if anyone wants to leave that step out... it's okay.
We're about to have a ceiling cave in too...right over the stairs..no bueno.
ReplyDeleteAnd both of my upstairs rooms flooded. Who the hell was the builder of our house???? Oh yeah...it was hubby. Oops!!!
Okay, the curtains are amazing and you already know that I'm in love with your kitchen. So awesome. I would definitely do the L-shaped bench with cushions...love that idea!
Hope the Hubs is feeling better today.
Your kitchen is amazing!!!!!!!
