Happy, Happy Friday!!!

This stud.of.a.man. is back!
I know you were all on pins and needles in anticipation.  He was not supposed to be in until VERY late last night, but he surprised us by catching an earlier flight!  Total excitement when the man of the hour walked in the door earlier than expected.  You'd have thought he was a celebrity, the way the boys reacted!

See this dog with a poor, innocent rabbit in its mouth:
No, this is not our dog, but this is an accurate depiction of what our dog, Shelby, looked like this morning.  The boys had been chasing a very similar poor, innocent rabbit outside around the house yesterday afternoon with baseball bats while screaming like little girls, and this morning, it finally surrendered its life.  I know this because Trysten barged into my bathroom this morning saying...and I quote..."Alli! Shelby caught the rabbit and bit its butt off!"  Gross.

I am so incredibly excited that it is Friday! I am working a half day today, and when I exit this building at 11:30 AM, I am going to go get a little mani/pedi combo, get the vehicle washed inside and out, and picking up my hubby from his office for a doctor's appointment.  We don't have any major plans this weekend except for catching up on some much needed alone time!

Happy, Happy Friday!
Have a great weekend!!!

Random Bits of Information

What a week this has been!

My handsome hubby:
 has been in:
all week long on business, and I CANNOT WAIT for him to come home! Unfortunately, he won't be home until almost midnight tonight, which means another night of:
and
and this

all by myself...

I am thankful he doesn't travel very often...even though he will be leaving again for San Fransisco here very shortly...because I MISS HIM!  I cannot sleep when the left side of the bed is empty!  On the way home from school yesterday, Ryan sent me a text saying he missed me, Preston asked who it was and what he said, and replied, "Mom, I miss Ryan too!" We then stopped to pick up "The Teenager", and once he buckled in, he asked, "When is Ryan coming home!?" So...even the boys are missing him.

We are kid-free this weekend, so we're both looking forward to:
some newlywed time...even though we aren't technically still newlyweds.  When does that period end anyway?  Is it 1 year, 2 years, or just whenever you no longer feel like newlyweds?  I hope it never ends!

I have to share a couple of pics because...I love them!

If you read our blog, you know the story of our guinea pigs.  Well, the other day Carter loved on Blaster a little too hard, and Blaster decided to "kiss" Carter's finger. It was nothing really, but evidentially it made quite an impression on Carter because I found this drawing from school in his backpack:
Sweet boy!
My brother sent me the picture below.  It's him with Austin in 2002 when he took Austin to
"Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day" at Texas Instruments when he didn't have any kids.  He and Austin have always had
a very special relationship...
I can't get over how much Austin looks like Carter in this picture! It also makes me a little sad to see how much Austin, aka "The Teenager", has grown up!
That's all I got!
Happy Thursday!!!

So Proud!

Normal day at work...I'm sitting at my guided reading table in my classroom calling a small group back to join me when my assistant principal opens my door and asks me to come speak with her.  I casually make my way past desks full of quietly working students only to discover Preston, my 3rd grader, standing next to Mrs. Acosta in the hallway.  Never a good sign.  She started the conversation by saying, "Well, Preston wanted me to talk to you first before we contact Dad.  Preston, why don't you tell Mom what happened."  At this point, my heart sank, and I felt sick to my stomach...no mother wants her child to get in trouble at school!  Preston stood there with a blank stare....and THEN...he whipped his POSITIVE REFERRAL sticker from behind his back and donned the hugest tooth-filled smile!

Preston's teacher, Mrs. Gunn, recognized him for all of his hard work, and I couldn't be more proud of him!  We have really been working on his reading strategies at home, and it was so great to see his efforts pay off!
He was so proud of himself, and to me, that is the most important, rewarding part of all!

I love you, Preston! Way to go, sugar!!

I Am Closer to 40

I am closer to 40 than I am to 30.  There. I said it...As of this past Friday, I am 36.  You know what?  It really hasn't bothered me like I thought it would. =)
Carter informed me, in the car on Friday, that I can now run for President because I am "older than 35." Thanks for the reminder.

I woke up Friday to a birthday card from Ryan on my bathroom sink, and this is what was inside:
I have wanted laser hair removal for a long time but haven't mentioned it in forever! I guess he was listening!! I can't wait!  Love that man!!

My students were so sweet to me all day, showering me with precious handmade cards, Dr. Peppers, sour gummy worms (my favorites) and Barnes and Noble gift cards!

How cute is this!
I teach a GT (Gifted & Talented) cluster class, and a few of them wrote this poem for me! Love my students!
We went to dinner with my parents on Friday night...How cute are they!
Preston...handsome boy. =)
Carter and Trysten diligently completing the word search on the kid's menu!
Ryan surprised me with another gift!
A five-star terry robe from red ENVELOPE!!!
Another item I have always wanted and briefly mentioned on our vacation in Florida!

My sweet mother has also been listening to me because she gave me some Kinerase facial cream for my ever encroaching SUN SPOTS!! If you have never heard of this stuff, google it! It's awesome!  This is the type of gift you want in your LATE thirties!

Ed and Carol sent me a package from New York including, among other things, an animal print cheese knife set and a bikini bag!  Carol always knows what I like!

I went shopping on Saturday to spend some of my birthday money and bought a few tassels at Hemispheres!  Ummm...I heart tassels...

Between Facebook, my students, family, and emails from my OB/GYN and The Plastic Surgery Center of Dallas, I received more birthday love than ever!
Cheers to 4 years left until 40!!!

Cooking With Dad!

My husband is a great cook and has a keen sense of what spices mix well together, etc.  We pretty much cook together every single night, but last night provided a chance for a little something special.  Ryan is famous for his chili, and Trysten requests his specialty multiple times when we're all together.  Last night was no exception, however, Ryan decided to include Trysten in the preparation!  It was so sweet watching father and son together...

Trysten was overjoyed at the opportunity to be his dad's assistant, and Ryan was so patient with him. =)
He was so proud of himself...
Sweet boy!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

A Day in the Life...

This little video is nothing spectacular, nothing fancy. It's just a day in the life in our home. I love the laughter, the sounds, the multiple discussions all going on at the same time. I love that when we're at home, we're all together...usually in the kitchen being silly.

Isn't that what life is all about? =)

When Country Music Goes Wrong

I have always felt comfortable listening to country music in the car with the boys until recently...

Picture this little cowboy:
in the back seat singing along to Lady Antebellum's song "Need You Now", as the following line comes out of his precious mouth...

"I'm a little drunk, and I need you now.."

Try not laughing at that!  I wouldn't be judging country music if it weren't for the fact that 3 days earlier, we were in the car, and Carter said,
"Mom, when I grow up, I'm going to drink 2 things...milk and beer."

My response was, "What?! Why?"

To which Carter replied, "Because that song on the radio said beer is good!"

Straight from Billy Currington's song "People Are Crazy"...

Completely innocent lines, but just not something you want your 5 year old saying...

Valentine's Weekend Recap!

Weekend, oh glorious weekend...
Where did you go?
How quickly you're gone.
How you do it, I'll never know!

First up on the agenda
was getting our taxes done
followed by celebrating our big return
with a whole lot of fun!

We slept in on Saturday
then went out to eat
It was then we saw Shaq
I couldn't get over his humongous feet!

A romantic dinner for 2
was the plan for the night
at Cru' in The Shops of Legacy
for a night that was out of sight!

I woke up to breakfast
made by my sweet and handsome man
and later drove downtown
for some fun without a plan!

We had so much fun
going places we'd never been
Atomic Sushi and House of Blues
Can't wait to do it again!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
What a great weekend we had, and since we didn't have the boys, it was all about us!  So many hilarious things happened over the past 3 days...Still haven't stopped laughing about our adventure that took us to The House of Blues.  More on that later!

This was taken at Cru' Wine Bar at The Shops of Legacy. We shared a bottle of wine and seared tuna.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Ryan made me breakfast...so sweet.
We decided to go to downtown Dallas on Sunday for a late lunch/early dinner, and ended up at a spot called Atomic Sushi....the best cerviche we have EVER had!  It was an interesting little place, and we spent some time talking to the owner. He was an entertaining older gentlemen with some great anecdotes regarding the changes in the downtown area over the past 15 years.

One final "note" Ryan left for me this morning...Love that man!
Thank you, Ryan for such a romantic weekend full of surprises!
I love you!!

Snow Day!

Let me start this post by saying that I have had SIX boys running through my house since since late afternoon yesterday...It's crazy, people.  When Ryan left for the office today, he laughed and said, "Have fun!".  My pantry is being raided, Ryan's Gatorade's are disappearing before my very eyes and the testosterone is seeping from the cracks in the walls...BUT...it's my world, and I love it!

We're having a record breaking snowfall, so the boys have donned their winter gear to play in the snowy landscape!  Check out the 9+ inches of accumilation!
Ed and Carol, does this look familiar?
Silly boys!
Lovin' the snow!
Our sweet boys...
Happy Friday!
Have a great Valentine's weekend!
We're kid-free for the culmination of  "Love Month"....lots of fun planned for the love birds!

I Am In Love!

No....this isn't one of my sappy emails about how much I love my husband, how great he is and how he totally and completely unselfishly spoils me. =)
It's about Pier 1, and their newest spring arrivals! Every year about this time, I get the urge to add some COLOR to our home, so I was browsing some sites the other day, and fell.in.love with these little jewels!!!

What do you think?!

Good Times!

Ryan has been out of town since Monday, so I have been hangin' with my boys. Carter has been eating it up...If you could see what he does when Ryan hugs me, kisses me, sits next to me...jealous! He'll come right in between us on the sofa, or he'll sit in Ryan's lap and say "That's my mama!" with a big smile on his face and that trademark laugh!

Taking advantage of the mother/son time, I decided to take Carter and Preston to Michaels Arts & Crafts for one of their Knack "Make & Takes".  If you haven't heard of "The Knack", check out their website. They have tons of online project ideas, as well as weekly in-store, scheduled arts and craft activities for kids that are DIRT cheap, fun, and linked to the current season or upcoming holiday.

Last night's activity was a Valentine's bag for their school parties!
Carter getting busy...
Here he is with a few little "friends" he picked up in the dollar bins while we paid for the bags. He eventually lost ALL interest in the art project, opting for winding up the dinosaur instead! Oh well!

Gluing on the eyes!
 Preston's turn!
Come on Preston! One picture. Just hold your bag and smile. He's so over my obsession with taking pictures...
Just one. Hold the bag...
Or not...One out of 2 isn't bad! WTH is that look on Carter's face?

Next stop.....haircuts. Would someone please tell me why kids immediately whine when they hear the word "haircut"?

Would you guys stand still for 5 seconds!!??
Mom, that's enough!

NEVER a dull moment!
Love my boys!
