New York Family Vacation 2009 {Part Four}

New Year's Eve in New York City!
Despite snowy/artic conditions of historic proportions, we were determined to go see THE State of Liberty while in New York, and boy did we see her!  Take a look at the day's weather conditions...

This is a view from the taxi on the way to Battery Park...the taxi in which its driver laughed when we told him what we were doing! The pic doesn't even begin to do justice to the type of weather taking place on that day. Once we exited the taxi and made our way to board the ferry, all Carol and I could do was laugh hysterically at our hair! Why we bothered to "fix" our hair that morning escapes me! We looked like drowned rats but could have cared less...we were on our way to see one of the most amazing symbols of freedom in our country!

Walking through Battery Park

The frigid temperature and record wind didn't keep Ryan from being himself! Love him!

Finally on board the ferry, and on our way! The view was beautiful!

The boys were such troopers!

Our family...

It's no fair that men look good no matter what the weather is like!

Three generations of Soladays!

Getting closer!

There she is....absolutely breathtaking! I cannot explain the feeling of seeing The State of Liberty in person as an adult and understanding its significance.

The kids enjoying the snow after getting off the ferry to see her close up!

The scenery was so picturesque!

Beautiful...

Have you ever wondered how she was built? Click the picture to find out!

I love this family so much!

Once we did our share of "donating" to the New York economy in the museum gift shop, it was time to get back on the ferry.

Trysten and Carter...so sweet!

Once we made it back to Battery Park, we decided it was time for lunch....at the ESPN ZONE! Preston and Austin couldn't wait!

While we walked to catch a taxi, we saw this sculpture which was taken from Ground Zero...It was amazing...barely touched in the explosions...Seeing significant parts of history in person is such an emotional experience...It makes it so real.

ESPN Zone!

I cannot stand this pic of me...at this point, I felt absolutely disgusting...but Ryan loves it, so here it is. =)

After leaving lunch, the boys went with Ed and Carol for the rest of the evening, while Ryan and I hit Canal Street and got ready for the New Year's Eve festivities!  Take a look at all of the preparations for the show in Time's Square:

Fast forward several hours after Ryan and I shopped until our feet could no longer take anymore, and the New Year's Eve craziness was beckoning our presence!!

This was at "The Social" a local hot spot reccomended by a very helpful NYC Policeman. What a blast hanging out and celebrating with true New Yorkers!

Happy New Year!! Is my husband handsome or what!!

Times's Square right after midnight!

Ringing in the New Year in New York City with my best friend who just happens to be my husband! What more could a girl ask for!

What a great day!!

More great pics! I love that T had the chance to see NYC again at his age! He'll love looking back on the adventures he's been able to have in his life between us all.

We went to Ground Zero on our trip there and we couldn't even take a picture, it was too emotional. I'll never forget how it looked.

And hello, ESPN zone... a boys heaven! Loved that place! Still wear my red hat we bought :)

NYE in Times Square... well worth the adventure!
