It never will go away. :( You just learn to live with it.

We still have a really hard time at the holidays, and we lost Brandon's sweet dad almost three years ago. His absence is such a hole that can't be filled. Praying for you all.

:( I hurt reading this post. What a special man...brought up a perfect gentleman that will pass it along to the boys. :(

I lost my dad 5 years ago this past September and I can say, the first of all those days is really hard. Grief is something that is so indescribable, so different for each person, and yet, the same. I like to think that because it hurts means your capacity for love is deeper, which makes you a far more sensitive and compassionate person. I have found that times heals, but there are always moments, days and periods of time that strike you harder and out of no where. It's hard, but thank goodness for the memories. Hang in there. Find a way to make those moments special for everyone. I have a friend with a 6 year old whose husband died in March. On his birthday, a friend brought her and her son balloons and they sent them into the sky wishing their husband/dad happy birthday. I thought it was a simple and sweet way to remember a day that only means something to them. Hang in there.
