I Give Up...

Down at the very bottom of this post, you will see the dresser I bought 4 years ago from The Magic Moon which is an over priced children's boutique. The only reason I even entered the store many years ago to look at furniture was because I was temporarily INSANE. I was about 3 months pregnant with Carter...my last baby....and was so completely sure I was going to have a girl. With that glimmer of hope and after decorating 2 nurseries for boys, I decided I was going to go all out for this imaginary girl I assumed was growing in my belly. It was then that I fell in love with...

And this:

Once I received the news that another player for my basketball team was making a comfortable little home inside of me, I told myself...FORGET IT, I AM BUYING THAT RIDICULOUSLY OVER PRICED FURNITURE ANYWAY...Now look at it...
Notice how Preston has carved his name into the front of the dresser?! Are you kidding me!?? I have no idea when he did this or what possessed him to do this....

I give up on nice furniture until the kids until the get a little older...

OK, I would want to kill him, but I actually think it's kind of cute. My parents bought Cargo furniture for the entire family when we moved into a 5 bedroom home after having 6 children in a 3bedroom, 1600 square foot one.

We all ended up using one of two desks for the "big kids" as the years went by and our markings/scuffs/knicks here and there added up. It's history!

Blake and I buy furniture and keep it for years. Our kitchen table is 8 years old and I hope to have it for another 20 at least. It has fork marks where Carter stabbed into it when he was 2. It's banged up and the soft wood has dents. And, there are countless splatters of glitter here and there from being the "craft table" at our parties.

I know our kids' bedroom furniture will eventually look like this. Carter has had most of the collection for 6 years and it's in remarkable shape. But, time will add some wounds, I'm sure. We added a bunkbed loft system so the boys could share a room and it already has some "personality".

I think furniture should tell a story after some time. I promise....one day, your house will be quiet and you'll see this dresser in a spare room or an attic and you will probably have painted over it, but you'll see his carvings and smile.

Now, that doesn't mean he shouldn't be grounded now. :)

I'm making a mental note to myself to steer clear of expensive furniture for my future chil'rens. Thanks for the heads up!

Is it just a boy thing? I mean, seriously, would little, cute, innocent girls ever do something like this? I don't think I'll ever know. My husbands swimmers DO NOT produce girls. His ENTIRE fam is boys...all of the girls are married in.

Anyway...getting back on track, I know it sucks but it is kind of funny. Do you totally want to shoot me for saying that?!!!

Oh, and LOVED the girl stuff you were going to get.
